Mrs Prasad

Hello everyone, Welcome to 4/5P! I am Mrs. Prasad and I have the privilege of teaching 27 wonderful students with 18 in Year 4 and 9 in Year 5. The class is made up of 11 girls and 16 boys.

This term started with a bang with our swimming carnival on the first day back! Our competent swimmers competed in all races to the best of their ability and managed to place very well according to their capabilities. Everyone deserved a medal for the effort they put in.

In Literacy this term, we are focusing on guided reading, writing, spelling, grammar and quality literature study, with our Library day on Monday. Our Literacy session commences with reading warm ups. Our daily reading programs are in small, levelled groups to develop fluency, retell and comprehension. We will be making meaning from our literacy work in ways that are imaginative, creative, interpretive, critical and powerful. Frindle by Andrew Clements is the focus of our literature unit this semester.

This term we are focusing on imaginative and persuasive texts in order to prepare for NAPLAN, using a variety of prompts as stimulus. We will do a writing task almost every day as well as a sentence a day to improve sentence structure, build confidence and speed whilst writing.

In Maths this term, we will focus on two topics each week. Some of the topics include Whole Number, Mass, Patterns and Algebra, Time, Addition and Subtraction, Multiplication and Division, Data, Area, Position and Chance. Before every maths lesson, we do maths warm ups to help us transfer our short-term knowledge to our long-term knowledge.

In PDHPE, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning, we have running around the park and circuits for 15 minutes focussing on the Fundamental Movement Skills. On Friday, we have sports for an hour and will initially be focussing on our Cricket skills including batting, bowling and fielding.

On Tuesdays we have ‘You Can Do It’ and ‘Mindfulness’ for 45 minutes. This term in ‘You Can Do It’, we are learning about the importance of organisation and goal setting and creating awareness about self -knowledge and self-perception developing our attention and focus skills in ‘Mindfulness’. Mrs Gill takes Year 4 and Mrs Prasad takes Year 5 for the You Can Do It and Mindfulness program.

In Science with Mrs Etherington, 4/5P will be studying the science unit, The Moving Earth.  During their time with Mrs Etherington they also participate in weekly technology lessons.

This term each student has set four goals for themselves - two Literacy, one Numeracy and a personal goal. These will be sent home for your reference.

Homework is issued on Monday and needs to be handed in on Friday. Our homework consists mainly of literacy and numeracy tasks as well as home reading.

Parents are invited to join our Class dojo as all class communication, including work samples and messages will be sent using this channel. Please e-mail the school directly if you would like to set up an appointment with me to discuss any matters concerning your child.

I look forward to a great term with 4/5P!
