Science and technology

Science and technology is mandatory for all students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

In science and technology, students explore the natural and made worlds. They learn how to apply scientific and technological skills, knowledge and understanding across a broad range of contexts.

Science provides a way of inquiring about the world around us. It explores evidence and investigates ways to discover, develop and produce solutions to real world problems. The inquiry and skill-based nature of science opens doors to ideas and discoveries.

At CPS all classes participate in an hour long Science lesson each week. Lessons are hands on and involve a lot of investigation.

CPS has a computer lab that contains sufficient computers for each child in a class to have their own to work on when in there. Each class has a number of computers, an Interactive Whiteboard and 6 iPads. Students learn about technology and with technology.

In Terms 2 & 3 the students in Years 4-6 participate in Project Based Learning for an hour each week. At the start of the term they are given a problem to solve that involves the use of STEM skills. The students work in small groups to solve the problem and then present their solutions to the wider group at the end of the term.
