The study of mathematics is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.
By studying mathematics, students learn to work mathematically – developing fluency, understanding, problem-solving, reasoning and communication skills.
The syllabus consists of the following strands:
- number and algebra
- measurement and geometry
- statistics and probability.
At CPS students in all classes K-6 participate in regular Maths Warm Ups at the start of each lesson. This 10 min activity allows students to consolidate learning that has occured in the last 5 weeks. During this time students practise counting, place value, number facts such as times tables or number combinations in addition to content from other strands of the syllabus. This allows students to develop automaticity of their maths facts and skills.
