Personal development, health and physical education

Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.

According to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), students are expected to participate in PDHPE for between 1.5 and 2.5 hours per week in Kindergarten to Year 6.

PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.

At CPS keeping our students active is a high priority. Three days per week the students participate in 15 mins of fitness activities at the start of the school day. Students participate in an hour of Sport on Fridays and a further session of PE with their class during the week. In Term 3, Gymnastics is undertaken as the PE lesson. This program is run by qualified gymnastics instructors and students pay to participate in these lessons. Students who are turning 8 or older, participate in  swimming, cross country and athletics carnivals in first semester and students in Years 3-6 have the option to participate in a range of sporting gala days throughout the year.

A variety of social skills programs, including Playing and Learning to Socialise, Fun Friends, You Can Do It and Peer Support are undertaken by classes. All students also participate in Road Safety, Drug Education, Anti-Bullying and Child Protection programs throughout the year.
